The SIMOONS League is an online simulation competition for teams from different countries organised by Vall d’Hebron Centre for Advanced Clinical Simulation.

Today (24 April 2023) begins the SIMOONS League, a competition with online simulation framed within the activities of the 2nd Simulation Week organised by Vall d’Hebron Centre for Advanced Clinical Simulation. It is presented as a unique opportunity for teams from different countries to work on their non-technical skills through the serious game SIMOONS while at the same time disseminating its possibilities.

SIMOONS is a comprehensive platform that enables remote training of multidisciplinary teams, allowing them to simulate clinical scenarios in a very realistic environment. Through the scenarios, it offers borderless accessibility and unlimited clinical cases. The simplicity of connection is a plus: only a computer with an Internet connection is required.

The aim of the SIMOONS League is to take online simulation “around the world”. Ten centres from different countries participate in the competition and are divided into two groups, A and B.

The first phase consists of two groups: the top finishers from groups A and B will move on to the second phase, a final simulation, and the one with the most points will be the winner of the League. The competition consists of online simulation sessions, each lasting 2 hours, including briefing, simulation and debriefing. The aim of these sessions is to work on non-technical skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork, situational awareness and decision making. Each session is evaluated by two facilitators from the Simulation Centre, who will be external observers of the sessions and will use the Emergency Assessment Measure (TEAM) scale to score non-technical skills during the simulations.

Each team will be made up of five healthcare professionals with multidisciplinary profiles. During these same days, all team members are doing a pilot test in order to prepare for the final competitions. In addition, the teams must prepare a presentation video that allows them to qualify for more points if they win the prize for the most original video or have had the most “Likes” on Twitter (#SIMOONSLeague).

The competitions take place during the week of April 24-28 and the grand final on April 28. All the activity can be followed through the Twitter profile of the Vall d’Hebron Centre for Advanced Clinical Simulation (@SimulacioVH). The winning team will receive a 1 month license of a SIMOONS module and one place per team member for the online SIMOONS Trainers Course.

So, good luck to all participants!
