The first simulation center in an Order of Nursing Professions aimed at nursing students and staff is born in Catanzaro
A new Simulation Center is born in the Order of Nursing Professions of Catanzaro. These are learning and training environments where hands-on experience can be gained, both individually and in groups, to develop, improve and maintain professional nursing skills and much more. The goal is to reduce clinical risk and limit human error. OPI Catanzaro has decided to bet on training with the aim of making the Simulation Center a Training Center.
“A historic moment” underlines with satisfaction the president of OPI Catanzaro, Giovanna Cavaliere also on behalf of the Board, and adds “The Simulation Center is a project with the aim of supporting innovative teaching and is essentially aimed at the practical training of students and the professional updating of the nursing staff”. President Cavaliere also points out that “the innovative and high-tech element is represented by the use of state-of-the-art technologically advanced simulators, which allow the physical and physiological reactions of human patients to be reproduced through interactive software”.
Along the same lines, the Head of Training and Communication at OPI Catanzaro, Emilia Cutullè, states that “through the use of this innovative training methodology, the Simulation Center, located in dedicated rooms at the OPI headquarters, allows to put into practice theoretical nursing teachings allowing users (students and nurses) to experience the theoretical knowledge acquired».
“Definitely a new era – President Cavaliere underlines – that aims at the well-being of the patient and the change in the training method of the members. We are especially asked by recent graduates, who pushto fill the university gaps in a purely practical way. ».
An innovative dimension that involves not only nurses.
A decisive contribution to the birth of the Simulation Center also came from Dr. Pietro Maglio, doctor at the Anesthesia, Intensive Care, Resuscitation Department of the “Pugliese – Ciaccio” hospital in Catanzaro and member of the Helicopter Rescue Service of the Calabria Region , who underlines “the value of a synergy that can only bring benefits to the local health system, in the sole and exclusive interest of users and the global growth of operators, no one excluded”.
Training activities for its members have already started, beginning with the training of trainers through theoretical-practical courses for simulation facilitators with the aim, among others, that the participants acquire the basic and advanced elements to use simulation constructively, both low and high fidelity, with particular attention to reflective debriefing.
As recalled, between passion and emotion, Antonio Ciambrone, councilor of OPI Catanzaro and member of the Simulation Center “thanks to the manikin it is possible to simulate numerous scenarios within a broad and comprehensive training vision of all aspects of the emergency with which the nurses are called to cope”. The Vision, in a long-term perspective, aims to make the structure not only a training center, but also a meeting place for the university world and other regional and national health entities, supporting training aspects, sharing experiences and knowledge.
